After viewing all these posts about Meten from back in 2011, I figured I would add my experience into the mix. Although I can not say how Meten was back in 2011, or the validity of past reviews, I can say from my experience that it seems that Meten has come a long way. I have had quite a positive experience coming to work for them.
Before coming to work for METEN I did notice a few sites with quite negative reviews. I decided to contact them despite the reviews, seeing as they were from 2011 and that it seems every school in China has some sort of negative review. After contacting them I was quite surprised at the level of professionalism. I am naturally a more inquisitive person, and thus asked a lot of questions during the initial interview. They were more than willing to send over pictures of the complexes and contact info for others that I could speak with. I can say that the initial impression was quite positive. Now its not to say that an initial impression should be the overall encompassing review of an institution but it was a good start.
Now, I had traveled to China before and knew the process of applying for Visa's which can sometimes be a pain in the a**, but METEN was very helpful in guiding the process along. They helped secure my work visa and helped with any questions I had in applying for the work visa back home.
Now working for METEN has also left me with a great impression. The management and staff are very helpful and professional and the centers are quite modern. I can see why some people wouldnt care for the all glass classrooms but I personally see it as quite a unique atmosphere to learn under. Seeing as some of the staff are native Chinese sometimes cultural misunderstandings do arise, but this is something that can be expected and it seems Meten has gone a long way to smooth out these wrinkles. Going to and from work you do have to punch in and out which brings another level of accountability and professionalism into play.
Like others have said, this is a private education institution and not a public school or university, which I actually like. The students that come here to learn are ones that sincerely want to learn english, so keeping their attention isnt as troubling.
I can say that my experience here has been good and they have gone a long way to ensure that my time in China is as good as can be. Seems that in 2014, things are quite different from the past.
