Institute Review
Please re-consider applying for ABS. If you have already signed a contract with ABS, I hope you have time to do more research and cancel your decision. Out of pure concern, I really hope that you read the rest of the review and do your research. If you saw the job posted on Dave's ESL Cafe for example, think about why a secondary school, K-12 and supposedly accredited, would post on an ESL site. And what exactly does American...Baccalaureate...School mean if it does not have an IB program? I made the same mistake, but you do not have to.

The school is run poorly. It treats its employees like highly disposable chattel, has a very high turnover rate, high expectations with poor quality, unreasonable resources, the morale every single year is very low (even for those who are new), and the AP classes are not aligned with any AP curriculum. The curriculum is supposed to be based on the American curriculum, but it is several years behind with failed attempts to catch up.

The school is run like a business. So, if you are a serious teacher, this is not the school for you. Schools around the world are tough and at times unreasonable with their expectations -- that is the nature of education sometimes. You can avoid undue stress with diligent research. There are no Professional Development opportunities. It is a waste -- PDs consist of constant internal training from Pre-Service, quick meetings, and luncheons.

The ABS housing is deplorable. They are located in congested areas considered "ghettos" in Kuwait. The buildings are unclean and run down, and the furniture is outdated and uncomfortable. They also do quarterly inspections to make sure you have cleaned your apartment.

Also, ABS has several cases, past and allegedly current, of teachers who have had their salaries unfairly deducted or not paid at all. I cannot discuss the details as they do not pertain to me personally, but there are a few lawsuits against the school. The higher ups at the school attempt to silence people with threats and other corrupted means, but there are some people willing to speak up.

ABS is also associated with its former name, The American Bilingual School, which they changed in order to escape a bad image. It can still be searched on Google. Currently, they are also associated with a recruitment company called IEPA ( and Oxford Tutoring Center ( They are BOTH run the same way and by the same people. IEPA is misleading-- it is fake recruitment for ABS and the Directors' other business ventures.

The pros
They are very good about bringing you into the school, and sometimes you will be assigned a mentor. Everything appears good on the outside, especially it being a school for the wealthy children. Most of the kids I really liked, but like everywhere, there are certainly several bad seeds. They are related to the Directors (it is corrupt, so of course).
The cons
Virtually everything as I described in the review above. The school is basically human trafficking a high percentage of its staff, the school has extremely high turnover of faculty and staff, the Directors are very abusive towards their staff, and there are many inappropriate things happening in the school that distracts from the learning process (selling of drugs by a staff member, teachers high or d*u*k at work, p*r*ographic photos of the Senior Vice Principal being circulated among faculty and staff, illegal searches of students, etc, etc). The school is unstable, to be honest.
Advice to Management
Where do I cannot continue to treat people as sub-humans. Please re-consider your ethics and re-structure the school. However, you must resolve your own fraudulent actions before you can ever revamp this school.
